About the role:
The Backend/Machine Learning Engineer is a key role at Storytell, with ownership around building backend systems and improving our machine learning algorithm to address our users’ needs. The candidate should be extremely capable, willing to get their hands dirty, excited about joining an early-stage company, and thrives off of the pressures and challenges of working in an unstructured environment.
This role reports into: Jing Conan Wang, our Co-Founder & CTO
Job responsibilities:
This is the scope of work the job entails — although we are all Crew, so we help each other succeed outside of these core responsibilities
Design and implement new machine learning algorithms based on business needs.
Analyze user feedback and use them to drive machine learning improvement continually.
Improve the accuracy and relevance of the generated content by our machine learning system.
Requirements for this role:
These are the minimum requirements we are looking for in this role
4+ years of work experience building a production backend and machine learning systems.
Experience building production-quality code incorporating testing, evaluation, and monitoring using Python.
Able to execute with high velocity and turn ideas into production code in a quick turnaround.
Experience in independently driving Machine Learning model iterations to solve business problems.
Experience in using user feedbacks and using them to drive ML development.
Experience in data analysis using Jupyter, SQL, Pandas, or other tools.
Experience in Large Language Models and Deep Learning.
Comfortable with distributed systems, big data, and data-intensive systems
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Passionate about productivity and storytelling
Willingness, interest and ability to communicate with users and understand their pain points so you can build product that meets their needs

Have experience in building Large Language Models-based applications for solving enterprise problems.
Have experience working in an early-stage startup and driving ML system development under dynamic business needs.
