Back in July 2022 we hadn't even incorporated Storytell yet, and it was just the three Founders with a dream of Distilling Signal from Noise for the world. Back then, we set a goal for ourselves, which was that by December of 2022, we would:
Have incorporated a company and gotten funding
Have hired our first employee
Have shipped a product to the world
And we did it! We had an offiste in Lake Tahoe, California where we celebrated hiring Parker Crist, our Staff Machine Learning/Backend Engineer and having shipped the MVP of Storytell's Slack Bot.
This achievement created a tradition at Storytell, which we will document in this blog. Each time we get together for an offsite, we'll set a goal for the upcoming offsite, typically 3-4 months into the future.
The only requirement is that the goal must feel "uncomfortably unachievable." Meaning: We don't quite know how we're going to pull it off, but we believe in ourselves to do so.
We also closely track our North Star Metric, which is a measure of our reach and our effectiveness. Our NSM at the time of the Tahoe Offsite in Dec 2022 was 0.63.
