Sometimes, you don't want Storytell to automatically summarize every page you view. We believe users should have the ability to easily choose what content Storytell is "paused" on.
Here's a 4 minute video of how this could work -- we'd love to get your feedback -- you can comment below this post or email feedback@storytell.ai :
And if you'd like to become an official beta tester, here's how to sign up.
Hi Mike, what we're shipping first is focusing on the web experience where you as the user get to decide what to run Storytell on. Let us know what you think!
Great work, team! @ryanfritsch, a few questions:
It would be great to get a better understanding of what the "Sometimes" mode would be. Would this be the equivalent to "On demand"?
Also, does this pertain just to a particular site or would it be a global setting?
Some initial feedback on Privacy modes.
I currently use the built-in Chrome Extension settings to control StoryTell's access to my site content, and the UX isn't great (isn't entirely intuitive, requires reload of page, unsure which pages are allowed) but it works.
My primary mode of using StoryTell is on-demand. It's a minority of the web content that I want summarized, so I only click on StoryTell to activate it (via the Chrome extension permissions setting) when I need it.
I'd expect to see an explanation of what each settings does, in particular the "Sometimes" setting. Also I'm not sure a warning icon is the best for this, since the extension technically isn't in a faulty state- it's a preference I've selected.
Ryan: as always, your solutions are very clean and elegant!
As a user—and this may just be another way of expressing the desire for control—I would prefer a level 0 binary toggle (not hidden behind hamburger) because I am constantly visiting new sites and don't feel inclined to get into the business of managing blocked site lists. I would be curious to A/B split this binary approach against your more robust vision and learn what others think!
Lastly, I am someone who uninstalls extensions myself when I don't want them to run 🫢😳 when it comes to PII corporate misbehavior has eroded trust, even under trustworthy conditions! So maybe a little message assuring me, when the button is off, that ST isn't looking at the data, and a design that makes it look like it's completely turned off and inactive, would help!
Thank you, Mike! We're hearing this from other folks, too. Would using our web app assuage your concerns? If so, I'm wondering if you've played around with the web app lately -- we just updated it: https://storytell.ai/search
I vote for shipping this ASAP 😀 One feature suggestion to remove a bit of friction for the user is have a list of 'canned sites/URLs' (Google Calendar is top of mind) that I can easily add to my blocked sites list
