As we continuously commit to default to transparency, much of what we initially kept internal to our company can in fact be external. That means that this space is becoming our source of truth for all our process docs, though we always "host" these process docs internally in Notion in case there's a confidential component.
Let's start with why: why do we create process docs (PDs)? It's not to create a rigid, rule-based company. Rather, the purpose is to create clarity with the best way we know how at this particular moment. Because we operate lean, we're also keeping "minimum viable process" in mind; we don't want to bury ourselves in protocol.
The "best way" is like the tip of a growing plant; this tip, known as the apical meristem, is where the bud grows toward the light. We want to mimic the bud, constantly updating process docs as we learn new ways to do things. Nothing is sacred; everything is open to improvement. Internally, we refer to this as "safe to try."
Following another value of ours, everyone is crew, we invite our entire crew, regardless of role, to improve the way we do things. And since we're posting this publicly, we're also inviting your input.
Create a process doc in Notion
Create a shortlink for the PD using Rebrandly -- add this at the top of the doc
Create a post in Storytell's Operating System in our Forum in Wix (right here)
Pro tip: You may want to write out the entire process in Notion first, due to the "multiple editor" issue in Wix, where if multiple people are editing in Wix at the same time, sometimes you end up losing all your work.
What to include in your process doc?
Start with why. Why does this PD exist? If you can't come up with a good reason, you may not need a PD.
Include the logistics. Where do people need to do what you're asking them to do? What steps should they take. Be thorough and clear.
Include the 'how' -- is there a mindset folks should embody as they follow this process? Enlighten us.
Publish your post in Wix and link to it in your Notion doc
Time to improve the PD? Update the Wix post, not the Notion doc.
